This is an outstanding shadow box framed display case with all of the US Navy campaign and service bars for the WWI Victory medal. There are a total of 19 bars, an embroidered US Navy eagle, gilded brass U.S.N insignia, lapel rosette, ribbon bar with scarce Maltese Cross device, a complete medal with the AVIATION bar, and both silver and brass US service star lapel pins.
The two long ribbons flanking the medal with AVIATION bar in the center have the following bars, several of them are rare or very scarce:

This is a mint condition WWI Victory Medal. This medal has a sewn ribbon and with a brooch wrap safety catch style hinged pin closure. The case is The Art Metal Works, Inc, Newark, N.J. maker marked. It has a 1920 contract number on the box. The box has the bottom flap missing. It is VERY difficult to find a period WWI Victory Medal in this condition. This is a view of the back. It measures 2-3/4 inches long. The condition is mint with the box near very good, except for the missing flap. |

WWIV-002 World War I French Croix de Guerre and French Victory Medal Awarded to a US Colored Soldier of the 93rd Division |
This is a FRENCH WWI Victory Medal and FRENCH Croix de Guerre (with Star) awarded to a Negro member of the US 369th Infantry Regiment (Colored) of the US 93rd Division for WWI service in France with the French 161st (Moroccan) Division. The Croix de Guerre medal has the usual French style pin closure. There is a separately applied large bronze star on the ribbon.This is a view of the back. It measures 3-3/4 inches long. The Victory medal is FRENCH. This unit was not allowed to march in the Paris Victory parade following the end of the war, and the award was apparently bestowed by the French instead of the US to this soldier. It is VERY difficult to find a period WWI Victory Medal in this condition. There is a very small maker mark on the bottom of the back side of the medal. It measures 3-1/4 inches long. The ribbon is a bit worn and shows some fading. |

USMD-10 Washington DC WWI Service Medal Named to a WOMAN |
This is a full size World War I District of Columbia Service medal. This medal was awarded to a Washingtonian woman Anna M. Jones, who was assigned to the US Navy as a Yeomanette during WWI. The front reads 1917-1919 World War Service and depicts a winged Victory standing on a globe superimposed on a cross on the front. This is a view of the back. There are raised letters reading: PRESENTED BY THE CITIZENS OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FEBRUARY 1919. There is a raised panel with script engraved name Anna M. Jones and her dates of service from 6-12-18 to 8-1-19 and MADE FOR BERRY & WHITMORE BY THE ROBBINS CO ATTLEBORO MASS maker marks. It measures 1-3/8 by 2 inches. There is no ribbon or suspension present, however, it is in the original burgundy colored case with ribbed white silk padded bed lining the bottom of the case. The condition is near excellent, with virtually no wear and deep tarnish on the bronze from age. |

This medal was awarded to an African-American Washingtonian who was assigned to the 371st Infantry Regiment (Colored), 93rd Division during WWI. The front reads 1917-1919 World War Service and depicts a winged Victory standing on a globe superimposed on a cross. This is a view of the back. There are raised letters reading: PRESENTED BY THE CITIZENS OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FEBRUARY 1919. There is a raised panel for a name to be engraved (it is blank), and MADE FOR BERRY & WHITMORE BY THE ROBBINS CO ATTLEBORO MASS maker marks. It measures 1-3/8 by 2 inches. There is no ribbon or suspension present. The condition is near very good, with some wear and deep tarnish on the bronze from age. |
