Original OFFICIAL German Surrender Signal Corps Officer Document And Period Photo Lot

This is a very complete lot of items once belonging to Lt. Col. Walter Raymond Brown, the Signal Corps OIC of SHAEF assigned to document the German Unconditional Surrender.

This is a lot of significant historical interest, as there was some resistance by several general officers to having the surrender sound recorded. The original master (steel laminate) SHAEF record recordings are a part of this lot, however they are in near relic condition and recovering the sound may be a technological challenge without risking further damage to the records.

Also included in this lot are LTC Brown's US Army ID card (perforated INACTIVE), his SHAEF Pass, his complete 201 file to include orders and medal awards, his black (wartime) SHAEF shoulder patch (front - rear), ribbons and other insignia (front - rear) several binders of military paperwork (pay and points, etc), several technical manuals with various communications devices, including a formerly classified document of a WWII German magnetic tape recorder (Cover - 1 - 2 - 3), the formerly SECRET document regarding SIGCIRCUS (the mobile transmitter for AM and TV communications), a number of photographs of the actual surrender, including one indicating his position during the surrender (1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6), several articles written by Brown for Reader's Digest, and other publications describing in detail the exact train of events (including code words) for the actual surrender, several newspaper accounts (clippings) regarding his role in the proceeding, some biographical data from his service in the Army, and as an employee at RCA, NBC (several letters signed by the President and other officers at NBC), and NASA when he worked at Cape Canaveral from the early pre-manned flight days through the Apollo program.

There are several hundred pages in this lot.  There are also several recordings of the German Luftschutz air raid warning (damaged) and Buzz Bombs (and one damaged Buzz Bomb record), and a few (1 - 2 - 3) of period recordings of unknown content.

SUJP-01
Japan Surrender Photograph

This is a photograph that was an "office copy" that hung in the office of Lieutenant Commander Sparks in lieu of the original (which he kept at home). The original is not available, however, this is a very high quality period photo copy on glossy photo paper stock and is virtually indistinguishable from the original. It is in its original period frame, as shown. The long dedication and signatures are shown in close-up here.

It measures 8 by 10 inches and the frame is 12 by 14 inches.

The condition is generally near excellent.
