Bullion Patches, Distinctive Unit Insignia and Combat Wing Badges

This in an interesting variant on this rank insignia, rendered in heavy silver bullion wire OD wool felt.

The condition is near excellent throughout, with some light to moderate tarnish on the silver bullion, as shown. There are pinholes from when it was sewn and later removed from a uniform.

The background is paved with silver bullion, with the blue star bordered in silver bullion wire, surrounded by the red floss border, and more silver bullion trim.

The condition is mint throughout. This patch has a cheesecloth back.

The DI is an unusually small variant worn on the cap. This group is named to the aviator, and presented to his doctor while he was a patient at Deshon General Hospital recovering from wounds in October 1944. Deshon General in Butler, Pennsylvania was a US Army hospital for convalescence and recovery of war wounded during WWII. The aviator is identified by name, rank and service number, the doctor by name and rank.

The condition is very used, with signs of combat wear. It is in overall very good condition. The patch shows wear in the blue wool chief and has some tarnish on the silver bullion wire from age.

This patch is rendered in two thicknesses of silver bullion wire, with heavy wire on the chief and fine wire for the border definition on the sun and star on brilliant watered blue and red with taupe floss border. The red is fine blood red thread, and there is a blue floss accent on the Chinese sun. Note the unusual variation of the vertical stripes rendered in a vertical bullion pattern. The back is a dense weave black linen.

The condition is near mint. This is one of the nicest of the many bullion variants of this patch.

It has a stiffened black linen backing with two of the original three clutch pin fasteners remaining.
