German Medals, Orders, and Trophies

This rare order dates to World War I. There were less than two dozen recipients of this extremely rare order. They included:

The cross measures 52mm wide at the arms. The oak leaves measure 16mm across the widest point.

There is no damage to the blue enamel. There is some thinning of the original gold plate from routine wear, visible in these close-up views of the front and back. The case is black with black velvet and white satin interior. There are some stains transferred from the medal on the silk. This is the silver content mark.

This rare order dates to World War I and was made between WWI and WWII.

The cross measures 52mm wide at the arms.

There is some slight damage to the blue enamel at the back of the medal from bumping against the Grand Cross and Knight's Cross in normal wear. There is very little thinning of the original gold plate, visible in these close-up views of the front and back. Here are views of the front and back side of the suspension loop area. This medal was recovered from the Obersalzberg at the end of WWII and was removed from one of Hermann Göring's uniforms. There is no neck ribbon, as many of his neck orders were sewn in for convenience, as shown on one of his uniforms here.

This rare order dates to 1934-1937. The design was a change from the 1922-1934 version, and it was changed again to incorporate the swastika in 1937.

The star measures 82mm across the points. The vaulted DRK cross measures 53mm across the flats.

There is some slight damage to the white enamel at the area of the tail and eagles' right foot. There is some thinning of the silver plate on the back from routine wear, visible in this image of the back.

The case is medium-blue with black velvet and white satin interior. The case measures 5-1/2 by 7 inches. Here is a view of the star in the open case.

It measures 54mm square. The ribbon is 5-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches. It has some slight soiling.

The case is black with plush deep red velvet and white satin interior. Here is a view of the outside of case. There is virtually no wear to the outside of the case.

This extremely rare order is not maker marked. It is the early two vertical rivet design.

These are views of the cassette cover with gold leaf eagle and the issue envelope.  The envelope has a slight chip and some corner wear, as shown.  The document (shown at the left) has a crease from a horizontal fold in the center. The eagle seal is deeply embossed and the lettering is gold leaf and black. 

The condition is near excellent, with deep tarnish overall.

This is a close-up image of the back and the front.  This is an overall view of the case top and bottom. The sash is 3-5/8 inches wide and 34 inches long, folded (68 inches long overall). The watered silk sash is more vermillion than the deep crimson red usually encountered.  It is not faded.

This is a rare 4 inch wide sash. The sash measures 33 inches long, folded (66 inches long overall). The bow is 6 inches across, tied as shown. The watered silk sash is a very deep crimson red.  It is not faded.

The condition is near excellent.

This order has a 900 content and 21 (Godet) maker mark on the flat pin.  The medal is heavy gold plate with deep white vaulted  baked enamel. The enamel is perfect.

The condition is near excellent with only slight wear to the gold plate on the back from routine use.

This order has a 900 content and 21 (Godet) maker mark on the flat pin.  The medal is heavy gold plate with deep white vaulted  baked enamel. The enamel is near perfect.

It measures 49mm across. These are images of the back with the pin down and one with the pin up. This is a close-up view of the maker mark on the pin.

The condition is near excellent with only slight wear to the gold plate on the back from routine use.

This order has no content mark on the split ring. The deep red ribbon has some minor signs of routine wear. There is no clasp present. The medal is gilt with deep white vaulted  baked enamel. There is some slight enamel cracking on the upper point of the front arm at 3 o'clock.

The condition is near very good with some slight soiling.

This order has no content or maker marks The deep red ribbon has some minor signs of routine wear. There is a Spanish style simple hinge pin and hook clasp present. The medal is gilt with white baked enamel on the FRONT side only.

It measures 45mm across. This is an overall image of the back. Note it is plain with gilt finish. There is some tape residue on the back from an old inventory marking.

The condition is very good to near excellent.

This order is 21 (Godet) maker marked and had a 900 content mark on the split ring. The very wide ribbon has some minor signs of routine wear. The medal is gilt with deep white vaulted  baked enamel.

This order is MÜNZAMT Vienna (Wien) circle "A" maker marked and 835 silver content marked on the edge and has a split ring. The ribbon has no pin closure. It has separately applied swords.

This piece is not maker marked and has a fixed ring. The metal is a hard pewter. It measures 1-3/4 by 2-1/2 inches.

There is no design or detail on the plain back.

This one is the Waffen-SS wool with heavy silk floss and metal wreath.  The back shows the construction and retains its original gray paper backing.

Condition: Excellent throughout with strong color and sharp details.  There is a minor spot of tarnish, visible in the image.

This is a 4-rivet design German Cross in Gold. This one is the four small rivet design with a wide unmarked pin.

The back is shown with the pin up and with the pin down. Condition: Excellent throughout with strong color and sharp enameling.

 Some very minor tarnish from age, apparent in the images. This is a keeper and cannot be upgraded

This one is the four small domed rivet design with a wide pinback marked with a very small maker mark "4" raised stamped number in a box on the outside of the pin.  The back is shown with the pin up and with the pin down.

Condition: Excellent throughout with strong color and sharp enameling. Some minor tarnish from age, apparent in the images. White spots on the swastika are reflections from the flash from when the photo was taken.

This one is the four small rivet design with a wide flat pin.  It is numbered 134.  The back is shown with the pin down.

This is a very hard to find medal. It is in exceptionally nice condition. It has a CEJ maker mark in the back.

This is an exceptionally hard to find medal and the ribbon bar is equally difficult to find. It is in superlative condition throughout. It has a L/12 maker mark on the back of the medal. It measures 43mm across.

The ribbon bar is WWI, with an Iron Cross 1914, German Defenses, the Spanish Cross NOK, and the Hindenburg Cross.  The swords are not correctly oriented, but that was easily remedied.

This is an exceptionally hard to find medal. It is in superlative condition throughout. It has a L58 maker mark on the ring. It measures 43mm across.

This is a very hard to find medal. It is in exceptionally nice condition. It has a separately applied crown and crosses device on the white enamel and gilt cross.

The condition is near excellent, with some wear to the gilt apparent on the back.  There is some soiling to the ribbon.

This is one of several medals struck (but never issued) to commemorate the anticipated German victory in WWII. It is in exceptionally nice condition. There were a number of anticipated issue dates, including 1939, 1939-1940, and 1939-1941.  This one is dated 1939-1940.
