This is an original document lot consisting of a notice of promotion to antipartisan Waffen-SS soldier SS-Standartenoberjunker Reimar Schmidt promoting him to SS-Untersturmfuhrer effective 21 June 1944, the original signed document from the office of the Reichsführer-SS, signed by Rode, a 7 by 9-1/2 inch photograph of Reimar Schmidt, and a Death Notice regarding his brother Lutz Schmidt, killed in action July 18, 1943 as a member of a grenadier regiment and recipient of the Eastern Front medal.
Ernst Rode was Himmler's Chief of Staff at the Reichsführer headquarters from 1943 to 1945. He was to later testify at the War Crimes trials. His primary function was to furnish forces necessary for antipartisan warfare to the higher SS and police leaders and to guarantee the support of army forces. The promotion document is typed on Reichsführer-SS embossed letterhead, with handstamp and quill pen signed signature.
Offered at $999.99
This is an extremely rare original document awarded to Sturmführer Ernst Zaske on the occasion of his transfer from SS-Sturms 2/III/1 "Carl Laforce" to his new command, presented by the officers of his old command.
Ernst Zaske was assigned to the personal staff of Heinrich Himmler, at Stab Reichsführer-SS. He was one of only 150 members of the SS to be awarded the honorary rank of SS-Rangführer by Himmler. This honorary rank was eliminated with the separation of the SA from the SS in mid-1934, shortly after the presentation of this document. Very few SS members held both honorary SS and active SA ranks.
This document is dated 15 February 1934. It is significant in that it was printed before the split of the SS from the SA, and does not have SS runes, bearing a swastika instead. The text of the document translates approximately as:
To our leader on the occasion of separating, our most sincere congratulations. It is our belief that his new command will take our leader on the basis of his past history of close fellowship and maintaining his honor. It is our wish that he will not forget his old comrades.
This document is marked "Kunst im Druck GmbH München" (Printed in Munich) at the bottom. It is framed in the original frame and measures 12 by 15 inches overall. There is some minor wear to the wood of the frame, the document is in excellent condition.
