Cole Design Knuckle Knife

This is an extremely rare example of a very early Cole designed combat fighting knuckle knife.

This knife is identified with "MADE IN U.S.A." and "No. 187" in three lines in a very light machine etch, parallel to the edge (as opposed to perpendicular). It is very difficult to photograph, and is shown here with some moderate computer enhancement to attempt to bring up some of the detail.

The blade is sharpened to a hollow ground edge on both sides, (along the top of the false edge to the spine). It measures 12 inches long overall, with a 8-1/4 inch blade that is 1-1/4 inches wide at the belly.

The distinctively styled knuckle bow is attached top and bottom with screws to the grip. These are overall views of left side and the right side.  The top of the knuckle bow has the stamped initials "T.R." near the screw at the pommel.  The blade is pinned through the tang for added strength.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There are obvious signs of frequent sharpening on the blade.

There is no scabbard.

Cole Design Dragon Teeth Knuckle Bow Knife

This is an extremely rare example of a very early Cole designed combat fighting knuckle knife.

This knife is completely sterile, with no maker or identification markings. It is VERY heavy, but balances nicely when held.

The blade is sharpened on both sides of a diamond cross-section style blade. It measures 12-3/4 inches long overall, with a 7-1/2 inch blade that is 1 inches wide at the belly.

The distinctively styled knuckle bow is attached top with a screw to the heavy steel grip. These are overall views of the grip from the left side and the right side.

The knife is used, however in overall near-very good overall condition. There are obvious signs of frequent sharpening on the blade.

There is the original fitted leather scabbard.

Combat Commando Knuckle Knife

This is an very nice example of a MASSIVE theater two tone steel combat fighting knuckle knife similar in design to the Cole knuckle knives.

This knife is identified with period engravings on the guard as belonging to R,S, & U. This unit was engaged in the 1944 World War II 2nd Chindit Expedition as part of the Special Force, 3rd Indian Infantry Division, with support units of the No. 1 Air Commando, Kachin Scouts, Gurkha units and British special troops. The order of battle is here.

The blade is sharpened to a rounded edge on both sides, (along the top of the false edge to the spine). It measures 16 inches long overall, with a 10-1/2 inch blade that is 2-3/4 inches wide at the belly.

The crossguard is marked R, S, & U. on one side and "68" on the other.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There is some darkening to the blade from age. There is no scabbard.

Combat Commando Knuckle Bowie Bolo Knife

This is an very nice example of a MASSIVE theater made steel combat fighting knuckle knife similar in design to the Cole knuckle knives.

This knife is identified with period stamps on the guard as a "U.S. MK1".  The blade has a faint stamped "M" at the ricasso.  These are views of the knuckle bow right and left sides.

The blade is sharpened to a rolled edge on one side, and on the clip point. It measures 17 inches long overall, with a 12 inch blade that is 2-1/4 inches wide at the belly.

The crossguard is marked "U S" on one side and "MK1" on the other.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There is some darkening to the blade from age. There is a brass throated canvas scabbard that secures the knife perfectly.  It shows distress from long carry.

Combat Commando IDed Seabee Knife

This is an unusual theater-made combat fighting knuckle knife

This knife has issue or maker markings. The blade is marked on both sides with a very lightly scribed identification.  Readable portions are "EO-To F 1/c John (Doc) Nugent US Navy Seabees" on one side and "Hotel Sour" on the other (with some other unreadable scribing.  These are views of the grip left and right sides.

The blade is sharpened to a rolled edge on both sides, and it is quite sharp. It measures 12 inches long overall, with a 7-3/4 inch blade that is 1-1/2 inches wide at the front of the parry guard.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There is moderate to heavy darkening to the blade from age. There is no scabbard with this knife.

This is an unusual theater-made combat fighting knuckle knife

This knife has issue or maker markings. The grip is marked on both sides with a very deeply struck mechanical letter identification.  The grip is labeled USN KEPHART on the right side and JAMES B. ROBERTS with US NAVY on the left side.

The blade is sharpened to a beveled edge on one side, and it has an unsharpened false edge. It measures 13-1/4 inches long overall, with a 8-1/8 inch blade that is 1-1/8 inches wide at the ricasso.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There is moderate to heavy darkening to the blade from age. There is the original leather scabbard with this knife.

WWI Clements Trench Knuckle Duster Knife

This is an extremely rare pre-WWI forerunner of the Clements WWI Trench Knife and the later WWII BC 41 fighting knife

This is the same design as shown as Figure 230-231 in Frederick Stephen's Fighting Knives on pages 50-51. He describes the knife as possibly Victorian Era through WWI, and designed by Charles Clements and made in Sheffield England. The clip point blade is riveted to the knuckle guard and Bakelite grips to present the primary 4-1/4 inch edge of the 4-3/4 inch exposed portion of blade up when holding it conventionally.

The knife blade is marked on one side of the ricasso with the distributor, the cutlery firm S. HIBBERT & SON SHEFFIELD  This is an image of the mark of the knife.

There is a false edge on the clip portion of the blade that extends 2-5/8 inches from the point.

The knife measures 9 inches overall. The knuckle portion measures 4 inches at the widest point. It fits very comfortably in a smaller hand. These are close-up views of the right and left sides of the handle.

The original scabbard is also included.

The knife is used, however in very-good to near-excellent condition. There is some darkening to the blade from age. There are signs of sharpening on the edges, visible in the images.

WWI Clements Trench Knuckle Knife

This is an extremely rare WWI Clements fighting knife

The knife has the characteristics associated with being designed by Charles Clements and made in Sheffield England. The triangular spike blade is riveted to the knuckle guard to present the flat side to the palm. The blade measures 6-3/8 inch edge of the 10-3/4 inch overall length.

The knife blade is not marked on blade or grip.

The knuckle portion measures 4 inches at the widest point. It fits very comfortably in a large hand. These are close-up views of the right and left sides of the handle.

The original scabbard is also included.

The knife is used, however in very-good to near-excellent condition. There is some darkening of the high carbon steel of blade from age. There are no signs of of other than original sharpening on the edges, visible in the images.

BC-41 Commando Knuckle Knife

This is an extremely rare BC 41 fighting knife

This is perhaps one of the nicest, most well-balanced and most elegant of the knuckle knife design. The clip point blade is riveted to the knuckle guard to present the primary 4 inch edge of the 5-1/2 inch exposed portion of blade up when holding it conventionally. This is an image of the reverse side of the knife.

There is a false edge on the clip portion of the blade that extends 3 inches from the point.

The knife measures 8-3/4 inches overall. The knuckle portion measures 4-1/4 inches at the widest point. It fits very comfortably in the hand. These are close-up views of the right and left sides of the handle.

The knife is used, however in very good overall condition. There is some darkening and minor rust pitting to the blade from age.

This is a nice example of the New Zealand and Australian commando fighting knife with original scabbard

This knife has a cast aluminum checker grip knuckle bow leaving 6 inches of the blade exposed.

This knife has a cast aluminum checker grip with the original knuckle bow removed leaving 6 inches of the blade exposed.

WWI Enfield M1888 Trench Knuckle Knife

This is a nice example of the British Model 1888 bayonet made into a World War I trench knife with many toothed knuckle bow.

This knife has a theater made iron knuckle bow welded to the bayonet, and the bayonet has had its blade shortened. The knife is still useable as a bayonet, the socket and slot areas are unimpeded by the guard.

This is EXACTLY the same knife that was photographed as Figure 72 in Frederick Stephen's Fighting Knives on page 23. Compare the blade blemishes and other details (including maker marks and screw slot positions, and you can see it is the identical knife shown at the left. The maker marks are a Broad Arrow, WD, Crown, A8, (unreadable mark) and "X".  The reverse side of the blade has a serial number 4?95

The knife measures 12-1/4 inches overall. The knuckle and grip portion measures 4-3/4 inches long. It fits very comfortably in the hand and is nicely balanced. These are close-up views of the right and left sides of the handle.

This is a nice example of the a World War II trench knife with four long sharp round spikes applied to the knuckle bow.

This knife has a theater made iron knuckle bow welded to a flattened oval cross-section double edge blade that is very sharp on both sides.

There are no maker or identification markings on the blade, grip or bow. The knife measures 12-1/2 inches overall. The knuckle and grip portion measures 4-1/4 inches long. Middle East Theater Bolo Blade Knuckle Knife and Scabbard

This is an very nice example of a Middle East theater brass handle steel blade theater made combat fighting knuckle knife.

This is a very comfortable knife to hold (considering it is a knuckle knife). The lobe rests in the palm of the hand to absorb shock and to aid holding it when slippery from use. The bulbous bolo style blade is sharp on both sides. It had rounded dragon's teeth knuckles on the side opposite the lobe. It measures 15-1/2 inches long overall with a 10-1/4 inch long blade that is a full 2-1/4 inches wide at the widest part and 1-1/4 inches wide at the grip.

These are the grip left and right side views.

This knife is pictured and described on Page 55 of Fighting Knives by F.J. Stevens as figures 270.

It has no marker marks and it completely sterile.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. There is some tarnish to the grip from age. The scabbard that came with the knife is included.  The scabbard is marked ROBCO LTD MONTREAL 1941.

This is an very nice example of a Middle East theater brass handle steel blade theater made combat fighting knuckle knife.

Jodhpur City India Ceremonial Royal Wedding Knuckle Knife

This is an very nice example of a scarce India Jodhpur Princess silver plated combat fighting knuckle knife.

This is the same design as shown as Figures 284-287 in Frederick Stephen's Fighting Knives on page 58. He describes the knife as dated 1951

This knife was made to commemorate the splendid wedding of 19-year-old Prince Karam Singh, heir to the Maharaja of Kashmir and 16-year-old Princess Yashorajya Lakshmi, the doe-eyed granddaughter of the hereditary Premier of Nepal on April 22nd, 1950.

This is a very comfortable knife to hold (considering it is a knuckle knife). The lobe rests in the palm of the hand to absorb shock and to aid holding it when slippery from use. It is a very effective design. The blade is sharp on both sides. It measures 11-1/4 inches long overall and intended to be used with either bare hand or gloved fingers.

It has many markings on the handle.  One one side, there is the JODHPUR CITY VOLUNTEER CORPS unit name and coat of arms.  There is provision for a number, however this one is not numbered.  The other side of the handle has AUSPICIOUS WEDDING PRINCESS JODHPUR APRIL 22nd 1950.  The "0" is very lightly struck and it is often read as "1951".

These are close-up views of the right and left sides of the handle. The original scabbard and cloth woven belt is included.

The knife is used, however in overall near-excellent condition. The original scabbard is included.

D-Guard Long Fighting Knife

This is a very well made fighting knife made from a 19th century ARTILLERY marked bayonet blade.

The blade is serial numbered 89897 and has a portion of the word ARTILLERY and partial maker mark barely visible on the ricasso. The guard is very robust and sturdy mated to the 15-1/8 inch blade. The blade is very sharp and has a number of tiny parry marks that do not detract or impair servicability. There are no signs of a bayonet attachment slot or mechanism. It measures 20-1/2 inches long overall.

It is maker marked and dated on the knuckle bow. This is a view of the left and right side of the grip and knuckle bow.  The wood is in near excellent condition.

The knife is excellent to near mint, there is no scabbard.

The knife is excellent. The scabbard is is used condition, with darkness and freckling to the metal parts and wear to the leather. About 90% of the original paint on the leather remains. The top and bottom pieces are marked "M.S".

This is a theater made second Model L.F. & C. 1918 style commando fighting knuckle knife with very unusual blade design.

This has a single-edge 9 inch blade with a 4 inch false edge nearly 1/2 of the length of the blade. The knuckles have small points, typical of this design. It measures 14 inches long overall.

The blade has a clip point style Bowie design, with the false edge sharp from the point on the back to the tip. The remainder of the back is flat.  The blade is 1-3/8 inches wide at the ricasso.

It is not maker marked nor dated on the handle.

The knife is generally in very good condition, with moderate to heavy signs of hard combat use and long carry.

This is a theater made second Model 1918 style commando fighting knuckle knife with very unusual blade design.

This has a single-edge 10-1/2 inch blade with a 2 inch false edge. The knuckles have small points, typical of this design. It measures 14-1/2 inches long overall.

The blade has a wide belly design, with a 7-1/2 inch wide fuller on each side. The blade is 1-1/8 inches wide at the ricasso, widening to 1-3/8 near the tip. These are views of the grip right and left sides.

The knife is generally in very good condition, with moderate to heavy signs of hard combat use and long carry. The "wings" on the guard were ground down for close carry to the body.

There is a steel subdued scabbard in used condition, marked "36" on the ball drag.

LF&C Model 1918 Design Western Bowie Blade ALUMINUM Knuckle Knife

This is a VERY unusual variant of the second Model 1918 style commando fighting knuckle knife with a WESTERN Bowie blade design and cast entirely in ALUMINUM.

This has a single-edge 7-7/8 inch blade with a 3 inch false edge. The knuckles have sharp points, typical of this design. It measures 13 inches long overall.

The blade has the Western Bowie design, with a 7 inch wide fuller on each side. There are faint traces of the WESTERN maker mark. The blade is 1-1/4 inches wide at the ricasso. These are views of the grip right and left sides. Note the unusual pommel shape.

The knife is generally in very good condition, with moderate oxidation and signs of hard combat use and long carry. This knife was probably made for a combat engineer or EOD engineer that needed a non-magnetic knife.

There is no scabbard with this knife, however a standard Western Bowie scabbard would fit perfectly.

It is maker marked and dated on the right side of the handle.  The left side is plain.  The guard is intact and has a crudely scratched M187 inventory number on the blade side.

The knife is very close to mint condition. The original subdued finish is 90%+ and intact. There is a scabbard, however much of the original finish is worn. The tabs are intact, with some minor bending. The maker marks are very clear and sharp.
