This is a very rare General Officer Identified uniform lot.
Included in this outstanding group are the tunic, breeches, visor hat, badges and medals, and quality copies of a number of supporting documents and photographs of General Betzel. The general was KIA in early 1945 and this uniform was retained by the family since the end of the war. This uniform was apparently his first general grade officer uniform as it is identified by the ID tag in the pocket with his previous rank of Oberst (Colonel).
His complete service record indicates he was trained as an artillery officer and served as a company grade officer throughout WWI from June 1914 through the end of the war. Between the wars, he held several assignments until he entered the SA in 1933. At the outbreak of WWII, he was activated from the reserves, to serve again an artillery officer until he transferred to the 9th Panzer Division in 1944, then the 4th Panzer Division, eventually becoming the Commanding General of that unit. He was killed in action as the Commanding General of the 539 Infantry Division in Danzig in March, 1945.
His awards include the German Cross in Gold, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. These two decorations are NOT a part of this lot, however his Iron Cross First Class 1914, Spange Bar 1939, ribbon bar, and General Assault badge are included.

This is a very rare General Officer Identified uniform lot.
Included in this outstanding group are the tunic and breeches.
His complete service record indicates Adolf Joseph Ferdinand Galland was a World War II German fighter pilot and commander of Germany's fighter force (General der Jagdflieger) from 1941 to 1945. Galland joined the Luftwaffe in 1933, and despite suffering injuries, including a damaged eye, in two crashes, he continued his military career. In 1937 he was one of 20,000 German military personnel to see action in the Condor Legion. Galland transferred to a fighter unit in 1940 and quickly reached Ace status during the Battle of France. In November 1941, with his score standing at 94 Galland became General der Jagdflieger at the age of 29. Galland continued to test fly many types of German aircraft, occasionally flying combat missions. Galland surrendered to United States Army forces in May 1945. He claimed a total of 104 victories in 705 missions and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz) with oak leaves, swords and diamonds, one of only 27 recipients of the highest German military decoration.
The shoulder boards on this uniform are post-war replacements that General Galland had sewn in to replace an original set that was initially on the uniform. The uniform is otherwise complete and original, to include the loops for the Spanish Cross in Gold with Swords and Diamonds, the Front Flying Clasp in Gold, the Combined Pilot Observer in Gold with Diamonds, and the Iron Cross First Class.
