German Military Metal Insignia and Devices

Here is a view of the back. This hanger is gilded alloy with oak leaves and national political eagles prominent in the design. It was worn by high leaders and used to retain the plastic composite holster that held the Walther PPK honor pistol.

This hanger is pictured and described in Kahl's Uniforms and Badges of the Third Reich Vol I: NSDAP as figure 153 on page 30, and shown in wear on page 50. We have one of these scarce 1970 first edition books available. Email if you need it for your library.

The hanger measures 4-5/8 inches wide and 1-7/8 inches high. There is some very minor wear apparent at the suspension points from routine use.

The overall condition is near excellent.

The large die measures 3-7/16 inches square, the small one is 1 inch in diameter. Only the half of the original die set is available, the other half was apparently left in the machine.

The original use of this die is unknown.  It may have been for some device that was never authorized or put into production or one of several dies for making tinnie badges.  It came out of a factory in Germany after the end of the war and brought back by a GI who was stationed in Germany through the Occupation.

The swastika is very shallow, with a pebbled texture.

The condition is near-excellent, although covered with rust from age.

The pips show some varying degrees of tarnish. They have two flat pin prong attachments.

This is a nickel plated device. It is virtually identical to the one on Adolf Hitler's gold Mercedes -- the "Eva Braun $250,000.00 Mercedes" -- shown here. This is an extreme close-up. Note this has dual mounts, the one in the photo has one central post.

It is a two-piece device, made in an NSKK shop and applied by means of a screwpost and nut on the back.

It is a 1930s period cast white metal device, with the Osterreich Imperial Eagle and wing with lightning bolts above and below the letters for the organization OAMTC (Der Österreichische Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club) and applied by means of a pair of screws and nuts on the right and left sides.
