This is a bright white porcelain china, made in the 1930s (the style is by Wolfgang von Wersin, the principle designer in 1936) by Bavarian craftsman at the famed 250 year old Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory near Munich, with the characteristic green under glaze Bavarian Royal Arms marks on the back, as shown below:
All pieces feature handpainted gold decorations and rim treatments, similar to the representative decorative element shown below:
This porcelain (and a number of other items) were taken in early May, just prior to the end of the war, by Captain J. T. Schwidde, a US Army doctor assigned to Company D, 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. This is a photo of Captain Schwidde in Class A uniform, and another photo in fatigues sitting in one of Hermann Göring's chairs outside the ruins of his home in Berchtesgaden. He wrote several V-Mail letters (shown here and here), specifically mentioning the "liberation" of this china and some crystal (shown on the Glass and Crystal page) which was mailed to his wife on 8 May 1945, V-E Day. He also acquired a number of other items -- including the massive record collection of Martin Bormann, which can be seen here, along with 1946 dated newspaper articles describing his adventures and picturing some of the items taken.
Extract of letter by J. T. Schwidde mentioning the china, goblets, and phonograph record albums.
Also shown are several Italian porcelain pieces, a present from Mussolini to Hitler, from the noted Laveno (Milan) Verbanum Stone porcelain works, and the Richard Ginori porcelain works near Milan. Those pieces are shown below the Nymphenburg group in a separate section, but are from the same group of items recovered from the Berghof as described above.
Below is shown a group photo of a number of the china and crystal pieces sent back from the Obersalzberg by Dr. Schwidde in 1945:.

The Fraureuth Germany Factory produced fine porcelain pieces from 1866 to 1935 in Saxony, Germany, with a branch at Wallendorf that operated from 1919-1926. This is the maker mark of the Fraureuth porcelain shown in this section. Note there is no "Germany" below the logo, as it was never intended for export.

This is the design of the LAH gold leaf monogram common to all pieces.
The LAH was formed in 1933 and this china was commissioned for the 10th Anniversary celebration of the 9 November 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, when the initial members of the LAH swore the Blood Oath to Adolf Hitler. Very few pieces of this china survive and it was produced in a very limited quantity (there were approximately 120 officers and men in the unit at this time.). Each piece is individually numbered on the bottom, overglaze with the PF logo. The factory that made this china went out of business in 1935.

This is a rare and unusual presentation gift from Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler to selected mothers of SS members, given at Julfest (during the Christmas season).
The porcelain is the snow white color associated with Allach. It is marked on the base with JULTELLER and black sigrunes and dated 1944 and the Allach maker mark under the glaze centered in a raised ring on the back. The rim has the legend Durch Mutter Und Helden Ist Unser Der Sieg (By Mothers and Heroes, Victory is Ours). These plates were made for Himmler to present to his high ranking officer's mothers as a favor for their contribution to their cause.
The raised pattern on the face is of six Iron Crosses and Oak Leaves surrounding the Mother's Cross medal and the date.
Here are views of the front (from directly above), the back and a close-up of the bottom showing the maker marks.
It is in excellent condition throughout with no chips, cracks, flakes or other faults on the face. The back has one hairline crack on one of the suspension holes (barely visible).

The Deutsche Reichsbahn was the German State Railroad. It provided rail service to the Germans, and additionally, special trains were allocated for the use of some members of the German High Command, including Hitler, Göring, and many of the field marshals that needed fast and reliable transportation in Germany.
The pieces are marked with the last three numbers of the railroad car identification of the particular train. "243" (from car number 10243) is the most prevalently seen."244" is another of his numbers. Hitler's Pullman car number was "10206" (marked "206") and the car directly next to it was "10205" (marked "205"). These numbers have been seen on china, silver serving pieces, linens, and flatware. "213" was also apparently a part of this same train.

The majority of the china was made by the Rosenthal Porcelain Company and the Nymphenburg Porcelain Company before and during the war.
We also have DR silver service recovered from both Hitler and Goering trains listed on the German Silverware page and table linens on the German Linen page.
All items shown are in excellent, undamaged condition, unless otherwise noted in the listing.
The tea pot with lid is a very small 4 inch base x 8 inch wide marked 221 with the Nymphenburg maker.

China-02 Launch of the Yacht METEOR Souvenir China Plate |
This plate is a 1902 Period German EMPEROR Schooner Yacht
METEOR III Launching Souvenir Plate Built by Townsend
Downey Shipbuilding Co and Marked Executed by the
ONONDAGA Pottery Co Syracuse NY
This scarce charger depicts the "Meteor," (the third yacht bearing this name) glided into the water of the Newark Bay on February 25, 1902. She was built to race the Queen's Course for the German Emperor's Cup, the German equivalent of the America's Cup. For several years, she was the fastest boat in the world, holding the record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean, besting the old record held by the RAINBOW. METEOR III was 161 feet over all, 120 feet on the water line, 27 feet in breadth, 18 feet 6 inches in depth, and 15 feet draft. The hull is of steel, ballasted by over a hundred tons of lead run into the trough keel. There are two steel bulkheads, one at each end, and a small steel deckhouse serves instead of the usual main companion. This deckhouse, with all the other deck joiner work, is of teak; and the metal fittings are of bronze. The deckhouse gives access to a lobby, which opens at the after end into the ladies’ cabin, of the full width of the ship, and forward into a main saloon 18 feet long and 26 feet wide. The Emperor’s stateroom is on the starboard side, immediately abaft the saloon, a room about 8 by 13 feet, with a large toilet room and bath adjoining, with another bathroom opposite on the port side. Here, too, are three staterooms for the suite. Forward of the saloon is a large galley with cook’s and stewards rooms, and further forward are the captain’s and officers’ rooms, crew’s galley, and forecastle. This is a view of the back of the plate. And this is a close-up of the maker mark. It measures 9-1/2 inches in diameter. The condition is near excellent with no chips, flakes, cracks or repairs, as shown. |
